AUTHOR TALK AT THE JCC ON THE HUDSON
For teens, setting and reaching goals is an important part of growing up. Whether teens are focused on doing well in school, facing their fears, making friends, excelling in sports, or mastering the fine arts or music — teens need to persevere in order to succeed. We have all probably heard the term “grit”, but what does it really mean?
Join the Tourette Association of America Hudson Valley Chapter along with Shames JCC on the Hudson for an author presentation by Dr. Caren Baruch Feldman on her recently published best-seller, The Grit Guide for Teens. GUIDANCE EXPO: The Keys to Teen Success: Increasing Grit, Self-Control, and Positive Mindset
Participants will learn how teens (middle and high school students) can change their mindset and their behavior in ways that support self-control, perseverance, and tenacity. The workshop will be hands on, interactive, and skill-based, allowing participants to walk away with actual strategies they can use with teens. These strategies are built upon the latest research emerging in the field, as well as my clinical experience. Living in a world of constant distractions, high stakes and pressure, and with parents who can often hover or snowplow, today’s teens often struggle to set and accomplish long-term goals and overcome obstacles. In addition, teens have a proclivity for risky behavior and are still developing the ability to control themselves. Thus, teens can uniquely benefit from developing these skills.
